Join me for an extensive year-long tutor-led class focused on shaded Blackwork. This course is designed for embroiderers eager to enhance their understanding of this intricate technique. Following the success of my Blackwork Embroidery book, I present Hooty Twooty, an engaging project inspired by popular demand.
Class Overview
In this class, you will work alongside me step by step as we plan, prepare, and sample techniques specific to our quirky owl design. Here are the key skills you will learn:
Preparing Design Lines from a Photograph: Transforming images into embroidery designs.
Producing Black and White Drawings: Simplifying designs for better clarity.
Using a Pattern Angle Plan: Understanding how angles affect design.
Creating a Stitch Plan: Organising the order of stitches for efficiency.
Establishing an Order of Work Plan: Planning the workflow to streamline the creation process.
Understanding Tonal Sampling: Learning the significance of tonal variations in Blackwork.
Darkening Patterns with Extra Stitches: Knowing when and why additional stitches are necessary for depth.
Deconstructing Patterns to Lighten Them: Techniques for achieving lighter areas in your design.
Judging Tonal Parity Across the Design: Ensuring consistency throughout your work.
Balancing Your Design: Adjusting elements toward the end of the project for a cohesive look.
Deciding on Additional Top Stitching: Evaluating the need for finishing touches.

Classes will be conducted live via Zoom, class dates can be found here
With all class recordings available for those who cannot attend in person. This also allows for review and revision of session material. Zoom links will be provided monthly in the corresponding class section.
